You can wander around most of the compound and explore the many traditional, though not excessively ornate, buildings. The main pavilion often hosts evening dance performances. Take time to appreciate the stone carvings, many by noted local artists such as I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.

Just north, Pura Marajan Agung is the private temple for the royal family. The compound across from the palace has a magnificent banyan tree, and is also used as a residence for the family and then next the Ubud Palace there is Ubud Art Market. Ubud art markets, in general, are always on itinerary lists, especially as the various items sold are typically Balinese, unique, and some unavailable elsewhere. In Ubud’s case, most visitors’ favorite leisure activities include easy strolls to the heart of the town, made possible by footpaths that virtually pass every aspect of Balinese culture and life. Ubud Art Market is one of the laid-back strolls, reachable from the Wanara Wana Monkey Forest Sanctuary just down south, an approximate kilometer from the market.
